Who Let the Dogs Out?! OK, that's an old reference, but it was once again time to create some laminated paper ( papier mache') dogs at Friendship Learning Center in North Fond du Lac, WI. As usual, I had the wire armatures (frames) all pre-bent and ready to roll (over?). I had fun creating a variety of dog versions for the 4th graders. There was standing dog, sitting dog, scratching dog, stretching dog, and lying dog. I even had some breed-specific types represented, like dachshund, great dane, pointer, and a few others. The 4th grade classes did a great job. And they were so well behaved! I didn't even need the shark cage.

The sculpting procedure involved getting our hands messy with the paste and thoroughly wetting down strips of newspaper for the first layers, then covering those up with paste-soaked pieces of colored papers. Some students had time to add details like eyes, noses, and collars. Most of the young artists will continue their dog sculpture in their next art class with the incomparable Mrs. Tzakais.

What fun-I had a great time-as always.
