Mrs. Pat Reiher is the art
teacher at St. Mary Springs High School in Fond du lac, Wisconsin.
Besides being an exceptionally talented ceramic and jewelry artist,
she is a joy to watch in the classroom. I always enjoy my visits to
the art department at 'The Springs', and Pat called upon me again
this winter to come into her class and demonstrate my art. After my
visit, her students constructed papier mache' sculpture projects. I
was invited back for a 'review' of the finished works, and to eat
donuts-which you don't normally get to eat at most art show
openings. I snapped a few shots of most of the finished pieces.
Students: If I missed your piece, I apologize. This idea of
featuring the works was kind of a last minute idea, and I just took
some quick pics as I was headed out the door. GREAT JOB EVERYONE! |

What a fun concept. Nice job on the antlers, too. That's a mural on
the wall behind the piece, I know it may look a bit distracting in
some of these shots. |

(left) Cow playing violin and a mouse
pointing.
(right) One artist created both the
'Hunting Dog' and the 'Fishing Beaver' -really well done. |
  |
|
(immediate right) Sunbathing elephant
and basketball hippo. I thought the representation of the different
animals was excellent. The distinguishing features were all there.
(far right) Penguin and Sunbathing Dog.
One is bold and more simplistic (but effective) in design, while the
other artist impressed with her ability to create a lot of small
details-not that easy to do. |

Great job on this 'Bookbird' -standing on a couple of old books. I
really like the sculptural forms of this piece. Also, Mrs. Reiher
did a wonderful job with her painting technique suggestions for her
students. This is a good example of how a little color variation
helps 'make' the piece.
(right) Monkey Slipping on Banana. I love the facial expression of
this character. Nice job on the hands and feet, too. |

  |
(far
left) 'Toxic Dog' The artist said this piece went through several
phases before he decided it should be a dog.
(left center) The Goldfish Playing Saxophone is just a well designed
and executed piece. Bravo!
(near left) Oh, not a good photo of this outstanding 'Rodeo Cow'.
This sculpture has it all, good design, well crafted and just plain
fun. |
|
(right) Elephants, anyone? As you can
see, the pachyderms were a popular subject matter. I love the paint
jobs on these pieces, and the one at near right has such good skin
texture! |

(left) The one on far left is very clever, and the hunter
character is hilarious. And, closing out our exhibition is a nicely
proportioned black cat, which I'm told had a small butterfly on it,
but fell off.
Thanks for viewing! |
